Therapy for Teens & Pre-Teens
After over 2 years of children not being able to have a normal school life, we are seeing the after effects of what that has done to our kids and teens. Your teen is suffering from social anxiety, experiencing panic attacks, can't keep up with academics, acting out emotionally, may be self-harming, and overall difficult to reach these days. That sweet, smiling face of childhood has faded into a surly, teen disposition. On top of normal adolescent struggles, the pandemic and the scary state of the world have deprived our kids of a sense of stability and safety. Hormones are raging, they may be questioning their sexuality, they're testing limits and boundaries (sometimes daily), you have no clue what version of them you're getting, saying hello sets them off (heck, sometimes breathing sets them off), their friends are way more important than you (ugh, we know), you miss your smiling little one and just want to rewind to simpler times. You don’t remember the teenage years being this hard, or you do and don’t know how you got through it, let alone how to now help your child. You're unsure how to help them navigate through all of this. You feel helpless. You're scared they may get into drugs, alcohol, sex…or they already are. You don't know how to help or where to turn.
The good news is, we LOVE working with teens. (Bet the word LOVE and teens sounds real weird right now, right?) We get it; they can be surly, slam doors, yell, won't look up from their phones, give you one word answers or just shrugged shoulders and a huff, and shut you out. But they also have a brain that can now process on a higher level than when they were little and have SO much room to grow and change early on in their lives. These are important years and you, and your teen, could use some help navigating them to set the stage for emotional health for years to come.

We will help your teen begin a journey of self-discovery (and help YOU survive the teen years!) We will help bring back communication between you and your teen, help your teen socialize with peers, figure out what is getting in the way of academic success, and overall help them separate and grow into self-sufficient young adults (sniff sniff, we get it, it's hard). Therapy brings hope that you, and they, will get through this. Call 201-749-1750 to make an appointment today and we will help you and your teen navigate these choppy waters. Think of us as your life preserver in the sea of ever changing teenage moods! Stop suffering through these years and get help today. Waiting it out can be risky, but taking action can help.
